CatholicArrogance.org – Millions of American Catholics are still reeling from the discovery that, over the years they have had a 4% chance of being assigned a priest who might use their church’s sacristy or rectory to sexually molest their children, and pretty close to a 100 % chance that when their celibate, childless bishop found out about such crimes, that he would do everything in his power to hide the crimes of their priests in order to defend the reputation of the “One, Holy, Catholic Church”, rather than the safeguard the dignity of innocent Catholic children.
But what makes the dignity and emotional health of a relatively small number of children so much more worthy of moral outrage than the very lives of 6 million Jews, and 4 million Jehovah Witnesses, Gypsies, liberals, handicaps, homosexuals, Polish Catholics, and other victims of the Nazi holocaust? Is it simply that the molested children were contemporary Americans and the killed and tortured holocaust victims were only Europeans of a bygone era?
One lesson to be learned from the recent pedophilia scandals is that Catholics who instinctlvely jump to the defense of their church, whenever any charge is made against it, shouldn’t be so hard on the many bishops who hid the sins of their priests all those many years, because they were only doing the same thing, i.e. protecting the illusions that they have had inculcated in them all their lives about “Holy Mother the Church”, the “Bride of Christ”, and/or “the Mystical Body of Christ”.
One Body One Faith – works for the full inclusion of gay, lesbian, bisexual. transgender and intersex people in the Christian churches. We believe that human sexuality in all its richness is a gift of God gladly to be accepted, enjoyed and honoured as a way both of expressing and growing in love, and that it is entirely compatible with the Christian faith not only to love another person of the same sex, but to express that love fully in a personal sexual relationship.
We want to help churches and faith communities to have intelligent and compassionate conversations about sexuality, and we want individuals to be able to integrate their sexuality and spirituality in ways which are healthy and life-affirming. We look forward to the day when the lives, loves and identities of LGBTI people are welcomed, valued and celebrated in the life and witness of the churches, and when LGBTI people’s gifts are accepted on equal terms with our brothers and sisters.
Founded in 1976, we’re proud of our heritage and our name – but you don’t need to be lesbian, gay, transgender or Christian to join us – you can be exactly who you are. We’re an increasingly diverse movement of people from across the Christian churches, as well as those of other faiths and beliefs. What we share is a commitment to love, faith and justice.
Soulforce – learning nonviolence from Gandhi and King, seeking justice for God’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Children.
This is an active organization which is consistently making progress on behalf of all GLBTIQ’s. I highly recommend them.
